Just for my own personal reference. Here's a quick list of the different types of variables in Modx.

  • [(varName)] = site setting, set site wide
  • [*varName*] = content or template var
  • [*#content*] = content var, like before sets in the document edit screen but the hash allows Quickedit
  • {{chunkName}} = chunk
  • [[snippetName]] = cachable code snippet
  • [!snippetName!] = uncached code snippet
  • [+placeholderName+] = place holder used inside snippet templates such as Ditto to show page id or Page title. Need to double chk what the specific snippet supports

Meeting Vitalic and seeing him at O2 Matter

I had the biggest shock earlier this week when I was informed I had won a prize to meet Vitalic before his set at the O2 Matter after entering a competition on http://www.vitalic-terminateurbenelux.com/ . The UK's Vitalic Ambassador (a lovely lass called Freya) emailed me on the wednesday which had put me in a bit of a position as I was organising a DS:London joint ready-up.net meetup that same day! Oh well, it's not every day you get a chance to meet your music idol!

On the day, we ended up meeting in a very nice but quite random pub near Canary Wharf. Ended up almost getting totally loss (thank you google maps! and Iphn compass) but made it in time to meet Freya, Mike(Freya's flat mate and writer for http://www.zapbangmagazine.com/), a french couple plus another guy called Micha. Pretty amazing the French couple had caught a flight across from France to attend this! We were also waiting on another girl who was flying in from Germany! We had a quick drink and started heading to the hotel where Pascal was staying. Turns out Pascal had some trouble with the set up of the light show so he couldn't make it to the hotel! Slightly deflated we carried on regardless, had some food in one of the restaurants in the rather lifeless interior of the O2.

My first time coming to Matter and I actually kind of like it. The second room was closed off but that was ok as the main event was happening in the main room and it didnt pack out as much as I expected. The night kicked off properly when we actually got to meet Vitalic backstage before his set. I was a little bit star struck but really enjoyed the conversations on his work, hanging out with some cool peeps, drinks and wot not.

The best part of the night was of course the set itself. As per usual he played a true stomper series of tracks, had a a problem with the first track with computing problems by looks of things but was plain sailing from then on. My personal highlight has got to be a remix of "My friend Dario" and a cheeky Chemical Brothers/Le rock mini mashup.

The following set of DJ's was going to have a real hard act to follow from Vitalic but they did a pretty good job with some great electro basslines that kept the old spring in my shoe working over time! Finally decided to head home on the bus. Overall, bloody good night!

I am back

So after almost a year and a half of not posting, I've decided to actually get this baby back up. So If anyone cares to wonder what has been happening, well I had a small issue with my old hosting provider and decided at the time not to bother any more. I also at the time was working my ass off to try find a new job during most of 2008 and didn't want to loose my focus. Well, after over a year switching from working as a Technical Consultant for the Professional Services team at Tradar, going to work for Spring Digital working for the Business Applications team, unfortunately the group was basically was reduced. So I ended up switching to work for their sister companyArtemis8 (the affiliate publisher/digital performance agency) as a developer. It has been pretty eventful time in my professional life. Now I work for a company that gives me free milk for my cornflakes and beer as well. I am content in life :)

Any who, enough about work and all that boring stuff. I've decided to lay out some stuff what I'm going to try post about. So hopefully from this point on, you may just see some stuff about music, coding, general thoughts and even some gaming stuff.
