I been trying to figure out how to edit the left navigation bar on my own media wiki which I use for documentation for my thoughts (usually for shortcuts and quotes). I had another go through google and found this post with a comment that unraveled the secret to editing the left navigation bar! Basically you put into any page:
[[MediaWiki:Sidebar]]
THATS IT!!!!! All this pain trying to go through files and it was in a wiki tag. Sigh.
And as soon as you click on it, it displays the properties of the left bar to edit to your hearts content!
